“In 2014 I accepted a position as Patient Blood Management Coordinator of a large academic hospital. With the help of an outstanding medical director we began building our program from the ground up. Though I had extensive critical care nursing experience, I realized I had very little knowledge of transfusion medicine. I attended SABM’s Annual Meeting for the first time during these early building months and was blown away. The lectures were packed with vital information and applicable strategies I used to enhance my institution’s program. The connections made were invaluable and forged many professional collaborations as well as friendships. The high level of diversity of SABM’s members is one of its strongest advantages as in practice it takes members from all professional levels to provide patients with the best care and outcomes. Several years have passed and I still find myself referring to SABM’s website for the latest evidence and resources and look forward to attending Annual Meetings each year.”
