Sharon Vernon RN
Sharon Vernon is a nurse champion and strong patient advocate who had the foresight and clear vision to create the first organization focused on blood conservation while serving as Director of Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program at St Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She launched the First National Seminar for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery in 1995 and thereafter founded the National Association for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery.
Sharon understood that interdisciplinary coordination and communication was fundamental to pioneering this new area in patient care. She has continued focused and undaunted even in the face of skeptics. Many remain indebted to Sharon for her stalwart support and her willingness to share knowledge and practical experience and mentoring the less experienced. She helped develop programs and lecture on anemia care and prevention and continues participation in other quality improvement activities.
