SABM President's Award
Guidelines and Nomination Procedure
Purpose
To recognize an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the field of blood conservation, contributed to the public good in the area of safety of the blood supply or reduction of unnecessary transfusions, or have had a career that focused on blood safety.
Eligibility
No restrictions apply to the nominee's citizenship, residence, age, race, national origin, or institutional affiliation. The nominee need not be a member of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management or a physician. The nominee must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Has made a substantial contribution to the field of blood conservation.
- Has contributed to the public good in the area of
- Safety of the blood supply,
- Reduction of unnecessary transfusions.
- Has had a career that focused on blood safety.
- Nomination Procedure
- Nomination must be by a member of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management
- Required submissions for nomination:
- A nominating letter summarizing in detail the significance of the work upon which the nomination is based
- A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) or detailed biographical information of the nominee.
- Contact information for the nominee if not included in their CV.
- Materials must be submitted in electronic format, in order to facilitate distribution to the committee members. Send information to the SABM Executive Office at info@sabm.org.
- Deadline for receipt of nomination and supporting documents is on or before May 15 of each year and will be considered for the following year's President's Award, (e.g. nominations submitted between May 16, 2009 to May 15, 2010 will be considered for 2011).
Selection of Awardee
The Annual Meeting Planning Committee, who are not themselves nominees for the award, will review all applications and make recommendations to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will review the recommendations and propose an award winner to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors will review the recommendations and choose the award winner.
Frequency of Award
One award may be made each year. There is, however, no obligation to make such an award if the Board of Directors believes there is no qualified recipient.
Duration of the Nomination
Each nomination will remain in active contention for three award cycles. The nominator will be asked to update the curriculum vitae and reaffirm support for the candidate each year.

- Speak for 20 - 30 minutes at the Annual Meeting on work that fits the reason the award is given
- Glass Trophy
- $1,000 Honorarium
- Airfare(economy)-booked at least 14 days in advance
- Up to $500 round-trip for flights originating in North America
- Up to $1500 round-trip for flights originating in Europe and South America
- Up to $2000 round-trip for flights originating in Asia
- Up to $2500 round-trip for flights originating in the Middle East or Australia
- Up to $50 per day for ground transportation (necessary travel to and from the meeting site only)
- Up to $60 per day for meal reimbursement
- Complimentary Meeting Registration
- Up to 3 nights at the Annual Meeting hotel (room and tax at single room conference rate only)
