Donat Spahn, MD, FRCA, is Professor and Chairman of the Institute of Anaesthesiology at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. He received his medical training at the University of Zurich and completed specialty training in Anaesthesiology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. From 2001 to 2006, he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anaesthesiology at the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Dr. Spahn was elected to the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2002 and is a corresponding member of the German Society for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. He serves on the editorial and/or advisory boards of a number of professional journals. Dr. Spahn also has co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers, review articles, case reports, books and book chapters.
