Board of Directors
Nabil E. Hassan, MDFollowing my graduation from medical school (University of Cairo) with honors, I served briefly as an instructor of Medical Microbiology. I have relocated to the United States where I completed Residency Training in Pediatrics, Fellowship Training in Neonatal, Perinatal Medicine (Case Western Reserve University) and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (Wayne State University.
Following completion of my training, I have held a Pediatric Intensivist job at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and a clinical faculty position at Michigan State University as an Associate Professor. I was extensively involved in teaching activities including Neonatal and Pediatric Resuscitation. My area of interest includes ultrasonography, echocardiology, bronchoscopy and infant apnea, in addition to blood conservation.
My interest in blood conservation evolved during my early practice years and resulted in launching the first stand-alone pediatric blood conservation program in the USA that still is an active body in providing patient care coordination, consultative support and functions as an educational instrument in the hospital and the pediatric community. I have participated in many local and national educational events including NABMS, ABC and SABMS. I have also chaired the annual Blood Conservation Conference for the past eight years in collaboration with our sister program at Case Western Reserve University. My research activity involved clinical studies, some of which are in the area of blood conservation.
My professional goal is to establish a constant and productive pediatric presence within SABM that will enhance membership and help generate and disseminate medical knowledge in blood conservation. Furthermore, in collaboration with SABM via the Education Committee, we plan to launch an international mentorship program that aims to further SABM and reach to other countries in need for development of blood management programs.
