Dr. Davy Cheng graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he also did his internal medicine internship and anesthesia residency. He engaged in an active career involving both research, clinical and academic activities and held the position of Professor at the University of Toronto and as well Medical Director, Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiac Program, University Health Network (UHN), Toronto. He is currently the Professor & Chair/Chief of the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine, The University of Western Ontario, London, and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre & St. Joseph's Health Care London. In addition, he is Director of the Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit, London Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Cheng is recognized as a world expert in cardiac anesthesia & intensive care. He has published over 75 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 30 book chapters, book and educational CD ROM. His research activities are focused on the perioperative outcome and resource utilization in fast track cardiac surgery; blood substitutes and conservation. Dr. Cheng has been invited as a Visiting Professor to over 45 universities and cardiac centers nationally and internationally. Dr. Cheng is a Founding Member of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management and also serves on the Board of Directors at the Anemia Institute for Research & Education, the Physicians & Nurses for Blood Conservation. He is a Member of the Working Committee Indications for Blood Products (an educational initiative funded by the Ministry of Health, Ontario), and a Subspecialty Advisory Board Member: Blood Substitutes; Cardiac, Academic Research Organization of the International Anesthesia Research Society. Dr. Cheng is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia and the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia. He is a member of the Advisory and Scientific Committee of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. Dr. Cheng was also the past-president of the Cardiovascular & Thoracic Section, Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society.
