Board of Directors
Lynn K. Boshkov, MDI am a US citizen, but lived for 28 years in Canada and did my medical school and medical training in Canada (McGill and McMaster). I am an internist/ hematologist by training and have a very strong laboratory medicine background as well with a focus on transfusion medicine and hemostasis & thrombosis. Prior to returning to the United States in 1998, I practiced as an academic hematologist/transfusionist/coagulation specialist for 9 years at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and was also a Deputy Medical Director of the Canadian Red Cross.
For the past 11 years, I have been at Oregon Health & Science University OHSU) in Portland, Oregon where I am currently a Professor of Pathology, Medicine, and Pediatrics. I am also the Director of Hemostasis & Thrombosis and Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine. My orientation remains academic and tertiary care, and my clinical and research interests cut broadly across adult and pediatric clinical hematology and laboratory medicine. My primary appointment at OHSU is in Pathology, but I am currently cross appointed in both Adult and Pediatric Clinical Hematology with direct patient care responsibilities and research interests in all 3 areas. My major clinical interests and activities center on transfusion and hemostasis in critical care, and on management of complex coagulopathies and complex transfusion related problems in both children and adults. I also do a considerable amount of consultation on Jehovah's Witness patients, and have substantial experience with transfusion alternatives arising from this and from a period of major blood shortages in Canada.
My major research interests include aspects of transfusion medicine (TRALI, TRIM) and hemostasis/thrombosis (HIT including HIT in neonates and young children; dosing of argatroban and clopidogrel in neonates and young children; etc). I have participated in many clinical trials, as well as having initiated some trials. I also collaborate on basic science coagulation research and have worked on development of several laboratory assays. I love teaching and teach medical students as well as residents and fellows in clinical hematology, pathology, pediatrics and anesthesiology.
I think the work that SABM is doing is invaluable, and I believe the breadth of my experience particularly suits me to be a SABM Board Member.
